PRODUCT INFORMATION

Is this actually real stone?

Yes! Ultra-thin stone is produced from 100% natural stone blocks selected from global quarries. Thin layers are peeled from the blocks and applied to a MDF backer. No two panels are identical, ensuring your wall is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

How thick are the panels?

Each panel is approximately 1/8 inch thick. By bonding the stone to a rigid backer, we keep it lightweight while maintaining incredible strength.

How heavy are the panels?

Each 12” x 24” STRATUM panel weighs approximately 2 lbs – that’s one-third of the weight of a solid piece of stone.

How consistent is the color from panel to panel?

When it comes to natural stone, every piece is unique. The color, texture, and pattern of each stone product cannot be replicated. This is what makes the stone so special – it adds a touch of nature and individuality to any space.

We take great care in sourcing and selecting the best quality natural stone products for our customers. With the authenticity of natural stone, colors will vary. As with any hand-made custom product there may be variations in color, texture, and pattern even within the same batch of stone. It’s also important to note that computer screens may not accurately represent the true color of natural stone. The final result will depend on factors such as lighting and room application. Therefore, we cannot guarantee an exact match to the product shown on our website or in digital images.

How can I make sure I’ve picked the right color before I buy?

To help you find the right color for your room, use our Room Visualizer Tool. It can give you a good idea as to which of our colors will coordinate with your décor. If you’d prefer to see the colors in real life and real light, we invite you to order our Color Sample pack for $49.99. These samples will allow you to see how various colors show in the natural and manmade light in your room. When you order your material for your project, you’ll receive a credit equal to the amount of the sample pack.

USES

Can I use these for a backsplash?

Yes, these panels can be used for a backsplash. However, you’ll need to use a silicone grout along the edges (perimeter) of your installation to ensure water does not seep in and get the MDF backer wet.

Can I use these as a fireplace surround?

Due to their MDF backing, STRATUM wall panels should be used at least 18” away from a heat source such as a gas or wood-burning fireplace.

Can I use these in a shower?

This product cannot be used in a shower due to the MDF backer.

Can I use these outside?

Since weather conditions can vary significantly, we do not recommend these for exterior installations.

INSTALLATION

What tools do I need for installation?

Standard woodworking tools like a jigsaw or circular saw are all you need. The thin profile and rigid backing make it handle just like a wood panel. You'll also need PL-400 adhesive, available at most home improvement stores.

Add in a tape measure and a level (preferably a long one), and you're set! (For a complete list, see our Tools & Supplies page.)

How much cutting is involved?

If you (or your DIY partner) are comfortable with a circular saw and jig saw, you’ve got this! Check out our Videos page for step-by-step instructions and helpful tips.

A circular saw is needed to cut only the panels that will be at the edges of your wall or around large areas such as fireplaces, so that they fit. A jigsaw is needed to cut out any holes you need in a panel for electrical outlets, light switches, etc. How much cutting you'll need to do depends on how many "things" are on your wall.

Do I need to hire someone to install these panels for me?

If you don’t have access to these tools, or are just generally all thumbs, you can hand over this job to your favorite trusted contractor – no need to hire an expensive, hard-to-find tile setter or stone mason. A 20’ x 10’ wall with an average number of cut-outs (outlets, switches, etc.) can easily be completed in a day.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Does the stone require sealing?

Our panels come presealed for durability and beauty. This saves you an extra step during installation and protects the natural texture from the start.

What if a panel is damaged after installation?

SHIPPING

How do you handle shipping damage?

We pack your stone panels carefully and double-box them for shipping. If any panel arrives damaged, just send us a photo of the damaged materials and we'll replace them without any hassle or argument.
