Wall Panel Installation Guide

Preparation

1) Prepare the wall or ceiling

Ensure that the surfaces are thoroughly clean and completely dry, free from any nails or screws.

2) Measure the height and width

Measure the height and width using the measuring tape. To ensure sufficient coverage and account for potential waste, it is advisable to order an additional 10% of square footage beyond your actual requirement.

3) Sort your material

Each stone panel is a unique creation of Mother Nature, showcasing natural variations from piece to piece. No two panels will ever be identical, adding to the charm and character of the installation. As authentic stone panels, they feature a textured surface, and some slight variations in elevation between panels may occur, which is normal.

To achieve the most visually appealing result with colors that have a higher degree of variation, we suggest laying your panels on the floor to organize them into similar color and veining batches. By carefully planning in advance, you can create a stunning visual flow in the stone pattern and smooth out any extreme variations between individual panels.

We recommend staggering your panels to offset the joints. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures a seamless and elegant finish.

4) Cutting the panels with a saw of your choice

STRATUM Natural Thin Stone wall panels can be fabricated and installed easily using standard woodworking tools. For swift and precise cuts, cut-off saws are recommended, while jigsaws are ideal for creating openings for electrical sockets and other types of holes. The panels are conveniently sized at 12" x 24" for easy handling and cutting. For optimal results, it is advisable to employ a wood finishing blade. Please note that minor edge chipping may occur due to the natural stone composition.

When cutting, please ensure that you cut the material face up to avoid any damage to the surface of the stone. For cutting on the slate for electrical boxes, it is recommended to tape the surface with painter's tape to protect it from any potential damage caused by the saw. When cutting out an area in the middle, start by using a regular drill bit to create a hole, and then use a jig saw to complete the cutout.

5) Mounting the panel

Apply structural adhesive (such as PL-400) to the back of the panel, ensuring sufficient coverage on the white side for proper adhesion. If desired, use small finishing nails in each corner or a pin nail gun with small finishing nails to hold the panel in place during gluing.

6) Special Notes

Panels should only be used for interior applications and should not be exposed to water, such as in showers, tub surrounds, or saunas. Our wall panels have enhanced colors. If they are going to be used in areas where splashes of grease and other food-related liquids may occur, it is recommended to apply a topical sealer, especially in kitchen backsplashes.
